We have reached the first SOLVED! project milestone and successfully developed our new numerical solver Battery-LIR (BLIR). The BLIR is faster and more memory efficient than the established BESTmicro solver. As we continue advancing in the project, we will be able to simulate battery cycling on the microstructure level, while considering volumetric changes in the active materials.

These are exciting news! the BLIR will already be integrated in BatteryDict in GeoDict2021, to be released in September 2020. BatteryDict is the module of GeoDict dedicated to battery materials research and development. The BLIR in BatteryDict will speed up simulations of the charge and discharge behavior of a virtual battery, as well as enable the simulation on larger structures compared to the BESTmicro.

And it remains equally exciting as we progress in the SOLVED! project. Now that the BLIR is integrated, we are pursuing to make available to all GeoDict users as soon as possible the cycling of the virtual battery and the simulation of the volumetric expansion of the active material during charging and discharging.
