Simulate Multi-Pass Test

Continue with the Simulate Multi-Pass Test step after you have done the Visualize Flow Results step.

Alternatively, load the CompleteFilterWithInletAndOutlet.gdt file from the Results-M2M folder.

We now want to simulate a multi-pass test on the complete filter.

The structure model of the complete filter does not resolve the inner pore structure of the filter media. Therefore, this simulation cannot predict the filtration efficiency of the filter media or its dust holding capacity. These values are needed as input parameters for the simulation. The simulation on the complete filter predicts the pressure drop evolution over time under the assumption that the properties of the filter media are known.

To start a filter lifetime simulation, in the FilterDict section, to the left of the GeoDict GUI, select Complete Filter and Filter Lifetime from the pull-down menus and click Edit….

In the Complete Filter Simulation dialog, choose a Result File Name. In this tutorial, we use the default name CompleteFiterLifetime.gdr.

Change the dialog settings in each of the subtabs:

  • Filter Experiment Tab
    Setup the multi-pass test and the stopping criterion.
  • Constituent Materials Tab
    Define fluid properties and filter media properties.
  • Particles Tab
    Select dust particle size distribution and define the adhesion properties. Also, select which physical effects are relevant for particle motion.
  • Solver Tab
    Define solver accuracy and parallelization.
  • Output Tab
    Select which data is stored on the hard disk for analysis and visualization.

After changing the dialog settings in each of the subtabs, click OK to close the dialog. Then, click Run in the FilterDict module.
