GeoDict User Guide 2025

Simulate Flow and Filtration in the Complete Filter

In this tutorial, learn how to apply GeoDict to model a complete filter.

In the first part, import an exemplary oil filter into GeoDict. The data is provided as CAD data for the different components of the filter: housing, support meshes and pleated filter media. Learn how to turn the CAD surface triangulations into a voxel grid, assign material properties and prepare the voxel grid for flow and filtration simulations.

In the second part, simulate and visualize the oil flow through the filter.

In the last part, set up a multi-pass test simulation. On this scale, the filter media is not resolved in the simulation and therefore the behavior of the filter media has to be described by effective parameters. We provide a set of parameters to use as exemplary input for the oil filter media in this tutorial.

The CAD data and material parameters used in this tutorial are exemplary data only, they do not depict an existing oil filter.
