KI4MaterialModeling – the project focused on advancing artificial intelligence for generating simulation models from CT data for material development – has turned one year old.

To mark this occasion, we met with our esteemed project partners at Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH (Benedikt Boos, KevinChen) and welcomed the visiting representative from the project sponsor, Mr. Manuel Friedrich from the DLR.

After selecting fiber bundle samples and evaluating existing µCT scan artifacts, the first year of the project tackled initial methods for object recognition and super-resolution. For example, new detailed scans were segmented in GeoDict.

In the upcoming second project year, AI networks will be created using prior information, object recognition, and synthetically generated µCT scans of fiber bundle fabrics.

We’re excited about the next steps and grateful to our partners for their collaboration.
