Modeling of two-phase flow in porous media
GeoApp: Two-Phase Flow - Hysteresis for Oil-Water Setups
Hysteresis for Oil-Water Setups is a powerful GeoApp within GeoDict, designed for the simulation of Two-Phase Flow in porous media, and with the goal of enhancing the understanding of reservoir properties. This GeoApp offers a sophisticated and user-friendly solution to calculate capillary pressure curves and simulate the complete hysteresis cycle of immiscible fluids, such as oil and water.
When analyzing reservoir rocks, Hysteresis for Oil-Water Setups allows for the accurate simulation of complex fluid-rock interactions.
Simulation setup
- Select the hysteresis cycle phase - Decide which part of the hysteresis cycle should be simulated. Options include:
- Primary Drainage: Water is displaced by oil.
- Spontaneous/Forced Imbibition: Oil is displaced by water, based on the preceding fluid distribution (water-wet, mixed-wet, oil-wet).
- Spontaneous/Forced Secondary Drainage: Water is displaced by oil, based on the preceding fluid distribution.
- Parameterize the simulation model - Define the necessary parameters for the simulation:
- Fluids to be used: Specify the types of fluids involved in the simulation (e.g., oil and water).
- Contact angle: Input the wettability properties (contact angles) derived from empirical data.
- Fluid viscosity: Include the viscosity of each fluid.
- Interfacial tension: Input the interfacial tension between the fluids.
- Set up relative permeability simulation properties - Configure the simulation to calculate relative permeability during the imbibition process. This involves setting the appropriate conditions and parameters to accurately simulate fluid flow through the porous media.
The simulation of the hysteresis cycle is provided in detailed workflows, covering all necessary stages to achieve accurate results for two-phase flow analysis. The GeoApp allows for the integration of laboratory-derived data directly as inputs, and the simulation scenarios and parameters are freely modified according to application requirements.
By following these steps, the Hysteresis for Oil-Water Setups GeoApp ensures a comprehensive and accurate analysis of two-phase flow in porous media, supporting enhanced understanding and decision-making in reservoir management.
