Microstructures generated with GeoDict
Including download of the files for replication the generated microstructures

This is a playful example of using percolation paths to find the shortest path through a maze. We use a picture, the "Labyrinth Matze Mäander", a free vector image on Pixabay, as basis and segmented it using efficient tools and modules of GeoDict to obtain a representation of the 3D structure of the maze (here provided as gdt-file). The simulation options are provided as GeoPy script ready to run with your local GeoDict installation and the provided maze gdt file.

Aluminium oxide platelets are gradually put into a plaster mould and are pulled in one direction by a magnet. The magnet changes position at regular intervals, so that the already dried platelets retain their orientation. The rest are pulled in a different direction. This structure is modelled after the layers of natural tooth or mussel shells.

The structure was designed with GeoDict`s powerful macro language at KAUST, Saudi Arabia. SEM image courtesy of M. Shi, WDRC KAUST, Saudi Arabia. Model courtesy of G. Printsypar, NumPor, KAUST, Saudi Arabia.
