Within the first project year, the project partners successfully identified two electrostatic filter media, which are used for further development and validation – more filter media are planned to be used in this project.

First, the filter media were analyzed and measured by the @IUTA regarding fiber diameter, initial pressure drop, and initial filter efficiency. Subsequently, to digitalize the media, µCT scans were conducted.

In the next step, the µCT scans are imported and segmented in GeoDict to successfully validate the pure mechanical filter efficiency and initial pressure drop (see image) with the measurements.

In the meantime, we compared the new feature to simulate dielectric and Coulomb forces against single and multi-fiber media with ANSYS-Fluent, which showed excellent agreement.
