BiGoFil

High filter efficiency with low energy consumption, environmental pollution, and development time and cost

The BiGOFil cooperation project of Math2Market GmbH with other industry partners and research/academic institutions is directed at increasing the efficiency of oil-separating gas filters (coalescer filters) through the experimental and simulative development of a novel filter medium made of bicomponent fibers.

Expect radical advance and exclusive simulation solutions to long-standing challenges in filtration!

In many industrial applications, finely dispersed oil must be separated from gases, mostly from the air, for reasons of health protection and functional safety. Special coalescer filters are used for this purpose. Two main application scenarios appear: Firstly, the separation of oil mists and oil-containing emulsion mists from air or other gases at ambient pressure, and secondly, the treatment of compressed air. The problem with these coalescer filters is the increased pressure loss in the line, which is associated with increased energy consumption, and a reduced separation efficiency.

The aim of the BiGOFil project is to develop a coalescer filter that increases separation efficiency with lower pressure drop. To increase oil droplets coalescence and separation, non-round, profiled bicomponent fibers with oil ducts are being developed. The filter medium of the new coalescer filter will feature a nonwoven media consisting of these bicomponent fibers. In parallel with the development of the filter, simulations of the fiber generation process and the filtration process are being developed on the micro, meso, and macro scales. At the end of the project, a fully developed prototype of a novel coalescer filter will be available.

In addition to the filter as a product, an extension of the simulation software GeoDict for the simulation of coalescence phenomena in filters is being developed within the project, which will be implemented and provided as part of the GeoDict software.
