Filtration Breakout Session

The session begins with the latest developments in GeoDict 2026 and a first look at new features in GeoDict 2027. Highlights include a new collision model for more accurate particle tracking, an new GUI for setting up adsorption simulations, and a dedicated generator for complex particle size distributions. Improvements to pleat generation make it easier to create complete filter geometries for simulation. An overview of the GeoDict roadmap provides a glimpse of further developments planned for future releases.

The core of the session focuses on a practical Digital Twin workflow based on real-world filtration applications presented at FILTECH 2026. Starting with raw µCT scans, the workflow covers image segmentation and the use of FiberFind-AI to determine relevant material parameters. These parameters can then be transferred directly to FiberGeo to generate realistic 3D models of the filter medium. Flow and filtration efficiency are simulated on these microstructures, and the results are compared with experimental measurements to evaluate the predictive capabilities of the digital twin.

The session then moves from the filter medium to the complete filter element with advanced multiscale simulation techniques. Using the Media-to-Element application, we present new developments in rescaling methods that connect fiber-scale simulations with predictions of filter performance. This makes possible to incorporate detailed information from the filter medium into simulations at the component scale.

Together, these developments demonstrate how image-based characterization, microstructure modeling, filtration simulation, and multiscale methods can be combined in a consistent digital workflow, from µCT images and individual fibers to the complete filter.
