Digital Core Analysis Workflows with GeoDict

Seminar recording

The online seminar “Digital Core Analysis Workflows with GeoDict” offers a practical overview of modern digital rock physics workflows and their application in digital core analysis. Using real-world examples, the seminar demonstrates how digital rock models can be created from micro-CT data, analyzed, and used for physically based simulations.

The focus is on the workflow from image acquisition through segmentation and pore analysis to the simulation of key reservoir parameters such as permeability, capillary pressure, and relative permeability. In addition, sensitivity and uncertainty analyses as well as multiscale approaches for upscaling will be presented. The seminar is aimed at professionals in reservoir engineering, core analysis, petrophysics, and geosciences, as well as users who wish to learn about or deepen their understanding of digital methods for characterizing reservoir rocks.

In this seminar you will learn step-by-step:

  • Fundamentals of Digital Rock Physics and Digital Core Analysis: Creation of digital rock models from CT data, quality assessment of digital rock models, influence of image resolution and REV on simulation results.
  • Pore Structure and Pore Analysis: Analysis of pore structure and pore connectivity, application of Minkowski parameters for pore analysis, conducting sensitivity analyses for contact angles, multiscale modeling for microporous rocks.
  • Flow and Capillary Pressure Simulations: simulation of absolute permeability, capillary pressure curves, relative permeabilities, and hysteresis effects, influence of wettability on flow properties.
  • Sensitivity, Upscaling, and Validation: accounting for unresolved porosity, upscaling of permeability and MICP results, validation of numerical simulations with laboratory data, handling uncertainties in Digital Rock workflows.
  • Practical application of the workflows in GeoDict.
