Fast-Track Digital Design of High Performance Pleated Filters
Seminar recording
The seminar shows how pleated filter structures can be efficiently designed and optimized digitally with GeoDict. Instead of time-consuming and costly prototypes, engineers, researchers, and R&D managers can create, vary, and test filter pleats within a few hours.
The complete workflow—from importing CAD structures and generating pleats to flow simulation and performance analysis—is clearly demonstrated. The digital approach significantly reduces development times, accelerates iterations, and provides valuable insights into flow behavior to specifically improve filter performance.
In this seminar you will learn step-by-step:
- CAD Import & Preparation
- Import OBJ/STL files of the filter housing
- Define materials and check mesh quality for watertightness
- Pleat Generation & Customization
- Digitally measure existing components
- Create new cylindrical pleats with the PleatGeo module
- Adjust key parameters such as layer thickness, pleat count, inner/outer radius, and M-pleat patterns
- Model Assembly
- Integrate pleats into the existing filter housing
- Build a complete digital filter model ready for testing
- Flow Simulation (CFD)
- Set up realistic simulations in FlowDict
- Define inflow/outflow boundaries and porous media properties (e.g., permeability)
- Select the appropriate solver (e.g., Navier-Stokes-Brinkmann for fast flow)
- Results & Analysis
- Visualize 3D velocity and pressure fields
- Identify bottlenecks and optimization potential
- Gain insights into flow behavior that are difficult to obtain experimentally
- Automation with Python API
- Automate the entire workflow
- Run extensive parametric studies
- Increase efficiency and productivity in R&D
