Abstract

GeoDict offers numerous features for the development of nonwovens, polymer and metal foams, laser sintered materials, composites, and ceramics. In the GeoDict 2023 release, many of these functionalities are greatly improved and those relevant for Digital Materials R&D are presented in this talk.

  • A new solver in the ElastoDict module of GeoDict 2023 is an exciting development. The very fast and efficient LIR solver already in use in FlowDict, is now also implemented in ElastoDict. Initially, the in-house developed LIR solver will be applied to compute the effective stiffness, but added functionality in the use of the LIR solver for mechanical properties will be introduced in the coming releases.
  • In GeoDict 2023, the result from PoroDict’s Identify Pores is directly loaded into FoamGeo with the click of a button to generate a Digital Twin. Up to GeoDict 2022, building a digital twin of a foam imported from a µCT meant manual work and transferring values from one module to the others. The new development in GeoDict 2023 makes the workflow a lot more intuitive and streamlined.
  • Some user’s workflows currently involve generating geometries (a unique feature of GeoDict), exporting these geometries to a mesh, and importing it into Ansys or Comsol for further computations. This workflow in GeoDict 2023 is vastly improved and results in higher quality meshes. Edge lengths can be predefined by the user to adapt to the specific need of mesh refinement. Triangle aspect ratios are improved to provide high-quality meshing, with highly improved speed in remeshing.

Other important features of GeoDict are presented in the other talks of the Digital Materials R&D session.
